2-PART CLASS: COLOR STUDIES & TECHNIQUE IN WATERCOLOR

Erika Rosso will teach a special two-part class at the Wendell Gilley Museum for beginners or watercolor painters who need to “brush up” on their color studies and technique. It happens on two consecutive Fridays, Jan. 19 and Jan. 26, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. each day. The fee of $60 for museum members and $75 for non-members covers both classes and all materials. Non-members can purchase a Winter Pass and get all the benefits of membership through the end of April, including discounts on classes and workshops. In the first class, students will focus on mixing colors, layering colors and creating different values. These experiments will be created in grids and labeled so that students can refer to them for future paintings. You will discover which colors are granulated, translucent or opaque, and how they interact. Students will work on the values and graded washes on the first day. On the second workshop day, students will focus on watercolor technique—how to layer color, when to allow washes to dry in between coats, and when to add color to wet washes. There will also be experimentation with dry brush techniques, and students will learn when to use more saturated color. All materials supplied. This class is suitable for ages 14 and up.
