Join expert knitter Susan Dewey at Wendell Gilley Museum, 4 Herrick Rd. Southwest Harbor, on Nov. 12, 9am-4pm for this class in advanced knitting. Bring: Questions; a piece of your knitting; DK or worsted weight yarn in several colors; needles of the appropriate size. $45. This is part of a 9-event festival taking place Nov. 5-Nov. 16 at the Wendell Gilley Museum and ArtWaves on Mount Desert Island. Space is limited and registration is required.
ArtWaves and the Wendell Gilley Museum are teaming up for this Handworks Festival. Carve a butternut comfort bird or a greenwood spoon; explore advanced knitting techniques; learn Coptic bookbinding or ribbed basketmaking; weave a heart bundle; or make a stained glass suncatcher, a felted rug, or a cornhusk doll. This is a pilot program generously sponsored by Machias Savings Bank and Bar Harbor Bank & Trust. Some of the classes happen at ArtWaves in Town Hill, and some happen at the Gilley in Southwest Harbor.
