Lynn Boulger and Tim Garrity spent a week in the Normandy region of France backpacking the Grande Randonée 223 (GR 223), better known as “Sentier des Douaniers.” Join them as they share photos and stories of their hike at the Jesup Memorial Library on Friday, April 26 at 7 p.m.
The GR 223 is a 227-mile coastal path that spans from Carentan to Mont-Saint-Michel in Manche section of Normandy, which is on the western coast of France bordering the English Channel. The path weaves its way along the coast and Boulger and Garrity passed along many WWII-landing beaches. They will talk about these areas as well as the other historic sites they saw along the way.
Boulger and Garrity have backpacked on six continents. Garrity is the executive director of the Mount Desert Island Historical Society and Boulger is the dean of advancement for College of the Atlantic.
