SKIP LA PLANTE, Composer, Pianist, Instrument Builder

On July 9th at 8PM, world-famous avant-garde composer, percussionist and instrument inventor Skip La Plante will perform his own music and a world premiere by Festival Featured Composer Jessie Kevin Cox. Vocalist Laurie Bennett will join Skip on a few numbers. The NY Times has called Skip La Plante the “Gershwin of garbage” and the “Tchaikovsky of trash” because he builds his instruments from found objects. La Plante will repeat his Bar Harbor performance on July 11th at 4pm in the Gammans Room at the Belfast Free Library, 106 High St. in Belfast, Maine. This concert is made possible in part by a grant from the Alice M. Ditson Fund of Columbia University.
