Join Kathie Pratt at ArtWaves as she demonstrates and shares this traditional craft. This is a family friendly workshop, children under 10 yrs., please be accompanied by an adult. Cornhusk dolls have been made by Northeastern Native Americans probably since the beginnings of corn agriculture more than a thousand years ago. Brittle dried cornhusks become soft if soaked in water. and produce finished dolls sturdy enough for Penobscot children's toys. (http://www.nativetech.org/cornhusk/corndoll.html) Meet the Artist Kathie Pratt happily lives and works in Tremont. She's been making art all her life, with a special fondness for sculpture. She studied at New England School of Art and Design and the Museum of Fine Arts School, Boston. Pratt has been directing an art and nature camp for children at the Bass Harbor Memorial Library for the last 13 years.
