Physicians now have more diagnostic tools available than ever thanks to advances in diagnostic technology, but the clinical diagnosis of a patient’s condition remains an art that depends on developing observational skills in a process that begins in medical school and continues throughout a career in medicine. MDI Biological Laboratory President Hermann Haller, M.D., an internationally acclaimed nephrologist, will talk about his unique approach of using masterpieces of art to teach medical students the art of medical diagnosis and to hone the observational skills that are critical to making accurate diagnoses. Haller employs this unique approach at Hannover Medical School in Hanover, Germany, where he is a professor.
The location of this MDI Science Café is the Maine Center for Biomedical Innovation at the MDI Biological Laboratory, located at 159 Old Bar Harbor Rd in Salisbury Cove, Maine.
The 2019 MDI Science Café series is generously underwritten by the Swan Agency/Cross Insurance.
This Science Café begins at 5:30 pm. Doors open at 5:00 p.m.
MDI Science Cafés are offered in fulfillment of the institution’s mission to promote scientific literacy and increase public engagement with science. The popular events offer a chance to hear directly from speakers about trends in science. Short presentations delivered in everyday language are followed by lively, informal discussion.
