Have you ever wondered why wine gets “corky”? Or whether there’s any chance that glass of your favorite red might really slow down the aging process?
Please join us at a special Science Café with two experts in the field as they explore the science of wine.
Dr. Iain Drummond, Professor and Director of the Kathryn W. Davis Center for Regenerative Biology and Aging at the MDI Biological Laboratory, and Scott Worcester, Owner of Sawyer’s Specialties Wine and Cheese, will outline a brief history of wine, followed by an explanation of how genetics affect your palette and a discussion of the role of fermentation, soils and pests in the development of a selection of wines.
The MDI Science Café series is held on the second Monday of the month through May, when the bimonthly summer series will begin. Doors open at 4:30 p.m.

MDI Science Cafés are offered in fulfillment of the MDI Biological Laboratory’s mission to promote scientific literacy and increase public engagement with science. The popular events offer a chance to hear directly from speakers about trends in science. Short presentations delivered in everyday language are followed by lively, informal discussion.
