Join poets Gary Rainford and Carl Little for a special evening of poetry to celebrate National Poetry Month at the Jesup Memorial Library on Thursday, April 25 at 7 p.m. Both poets will share selections of their work at this event.
Rainford, who lives on Swan’s Island, is the author of two poetry collections, “Salty Liquor” and “Liner Notes.” His suite of poems, “We Are Here,” was an honorable mention selected by Betsy Sholl for The Gabriel Zimpritch Memorial Poetry Prize. Rainford is currently working on “Seven Springs,” a new collection of poems that tell the story of his mother’s first year living with Alzheimer’s disease. These poems square off with the bitter reality, “To grow old is to lose everything,” the opening line in Donald Hall’s poem, “Affirmation.”
Little, who lives on MDI, is the author of multiple books about art as well as the poetry collection, “Ocean Drinker: New & Selected Poems.” His poems have appeared in many journals, including The Paris Review, LOCUSPOINT, Down East and Off the Coast, and in several anthologies edited by Wesley McNair. His poetry has recently been featured in Maine Sunday Telegram’s “Deep Water” series and “Poems from Here” on Maine Public Radio as well as in 3 Nations Anthology: Native, Canadian & New England Writers, The Island Reader, and Goose River Anthology. Little is communications manager at the Maine Community Foundation.
