Join the Jesup Memorial Library and The Jackson Laboratory (JAX) for 4th Annual “Primary Source Speaker Series.” This year’s theme is “Getting Personal: How Your Genes are Shaping the Future of Healthcare” which will feature five speakers at the Jesup. The speakers will explore the different facets of how gene research is affecting the treatment of different diseases from cancer to ALS. Come learn about how your genes can affect your healthcare in the years to come.
The first event in the series is on Thursday, June 13 at 7 p.m. Join Dr. Ewlina Bolcun-Filas, an Assistant Professor at JAX, for “Preserving the Future: How does Cancer Treatment Affect Fertility?” When many women are diagnosed with cancer, they are left to grapple with the fact that cancer treatment often can have a negative impact on their fertility in the future. Dr. Bolcun-Filas will discuss how gene research can help women who are facing these challenges and how scientists are aiming to make the decision between cancer treatments and fertility a thing of the past.
