Rag Doll Storytime with Author Karen Toothaker “The Rag Doll Gift”

Join author Karen Richards Toothaker at a special story time on Saturday, Jan. 12 at 1 p.m. at the Jesup Memorial Library. Toothaker, the author of “The Rag Doll Gift” will be reading from her book and teaching attendees how to make their own no-sew rag doll.
 
“The Rag Doll Gift” is based on a tradition of Toothaker’s family, and tells the story of Kimberly. Kimberly is turning six years old; and like all the children in her family, she is looking forward to getting a rag doll from her grandmother to celebrate the day. ?Toothaker writes, “This gentle story is about loss, but more than that it is about the strength of family, the comfort of traditions and the boundlessness of love.” After Toothaker reads her story, she will teach participants how to make their own rag doll to bring home.
 
Toothaker is an early childhood educator, community organizer, Life Is Good playmaker, and children's book author. She has taught in preschools classrooms for more than 40 years and has first-hand experience with the effectiveness of picture books to stimulate the mind, open conversation, offer emotional support and provide us all with the fundamentals of understanding ourselves and others.
