    Job Description: General Manager – Independent Café
    Location: Downtown Bar Harbor, Maine
    Reports To: Owners
    Overview:
    The Independent Café is looking for an experienced, hands-on General Manager to lead our team and oversee daily operations at our popular café in Downtown Bar Harbor. The General Manager will be responsible for maintaining operational efficiency, creating a positive environment for both employees and customers, and helping drive the success of the café. This individual will also provide support to our sister coffee shop, Acadia Perk, located across the street.
    Key Responsibilities:
    • Operational Management: Oversee day-to-day operations, ensuring smooth running of the café. Responsibilities include managing scheduling, inventory, and product quality control.
    • Team Leadership: Lead, manage, and inspire a team of employees, including hiring, training, and developing staff members. Promote shift supervisors and handle performance evaluations.
    • Customer Engagement: Provide excellent customer service and maintain positive relations with our community and guests. Ensure high customer satisfaction and manage customer complaints.
    • Financial Management: Work with the owners to provide insights on budgets, menu pricing, and payroll. Contribute to financial planning and assist in cost control efforts.
    • Staffing: Ensure adequate coverage for the café, especially during the busy summer season. Flexibility to work varied shifts, including weekends, holidays, and during staff shortages.
    • Health & Safety Compliance: Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and food service regulations. Maintain cleanliness standards and ensure the team follows proper food handling procedures.
    • Community Involvement: Represent the café in the community by building and maintaining positive relationships with local businesses and customers.
    • Customer Feedback & Reviews: Strive to maintain high reviews on platforms like Google, TripAdvisor, and Yelp. Address customer feedback constructively.
    Requirements:
    • Experience: Prior experience in the food and beverage industry is required. Previous management experience is preferred.
    • Education: A degree in business or hospitality is preferred but not required. Candidates must either have or be willing to obtain their Food Service Certification after being hired.
    • Skills: Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills. Familiarity with Square POS is a plus, but not required.
    • Flexibility: Ability to work a flexible schedule, especially during the busy summer season. Must be available to work weekends and holidays, and cover shifts as needed.
