Finance and Operations Director
Posted: 01/13/2025The Bar Harbor Chamber of Commerce is seeking an individual to join our team as our Finance and Operations Director. The Bar Harbor Chamber of Commerce represents members from nearly 400 independent businesses and helps thousands yearly as part of its services. Services include assisting more than 100,000 visitors annually at its Visitor Information Center and Information Kiosk, producing and distributing 100,000 planning guidebooks annually through trade shows, mailings, and information centers, and executing events such as Bar Harbor’s July 4th Celebration, Early Bird Pajama Sales & Bed Races, and member networking events.
Under the supervision of the Executive Director, the Finance and Operations Director is a key member of the Chamber leadership team, responsible for the overall financial health and operational efficiency of the organization. This role requires a highly organized and detail-oriented individual with strong financial acumen and a commitment to excellent customer service to help the Bar Harbor Chamber of Commerce accomplish our mission of advancing our members’ interests and prosperity while facilitating relationships that build strong communities and promote responsible tourism.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Overseeing all aspects of the Chamber’s financial operations including, but not limited to budgeting, accounting, payroll processing, and financial reporting.
- Manage aspects of human resources including vacation and sick leave tracking, health and retirement benefits, and ensuring the Chamber remains in compliance with all applicable financial regulations and accounting standards.
- Provide excellent customer service to all members and stakeholders.
- Maintain and troubleshoot office technology, including computers, phones, and other equipment.
- Working alongside the Executive Director for human resources functions of the organization.
- Prepare reports as needed for the Executive Director and Board of Directors.
- Foster relationships with members of the Chamber to advance the Chamber’s mission.
- Other duties as needed to help fulfill our mission and abide by our organization’s values.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
- General knowledge of Bar Harbor, Acadia National Park, and the Mount Desert Island area.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience in a financial or operation role, preferably in a non-profit setting.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience in working with volunteers and encouraging positive team environments.
- Must work well both individually and in a team environment.
- Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy.
- Community-oriented.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks), Google Workspace Suite, and Microsoft Office Suite products including Gmail, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Excel.
- Comfortability learning and working with systems such as the Chamber’s customer relationship management database.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Availability to work evenings, early mornings, holidays, and weekends as needed.

Compensation & Benefits:
This is a full-time salaried, exempt position with annual wages starting from $58k. The offer will be commensurate with experience. Employee benefits include vacation, personal, and sick leave, paid holidays, and a retirement contribution plan with employer match. Employee benefits also include an option to participate in employer-subsidized health insurance. The position requires an estimated 40-hour work schedule per week. This position does not include employee housing.

The position will be primarily based in downtown Bar Harbor.
